project overview
Changes. is a lo-fi hip-hop beat mixtape built entirely from scratch — music, cover, and packaging designed and produced by the same person. Sampling from records made between the 1950s and 1970s, the album draws on the production philosophy of J Dilla, Nujabes, and Madlib: warm vinyl crackle, jazzy chords, soulful textures, and drums that make you nod without trying. The brief I set myself was to make the design and the music inseparable — one couldn't exist without the other. The front cover is a photograph of my childhood home in Chicago, taken in the early 2000s around the time I was born. Treated in Photoshop with analog overlays, colour corrections, and a film-grain wash, it carries the same nostalgic weight as the music itself — something personal, slightly faded, and worth preserving. The back cover, spine, and disc sticker continue the aesthetic with motion-blur night photography and minimalist typography, giving every surface of the physical object visual continuity. Everything was printed on 300g coated paper and brought to life as a real, holdable thing. The result is a project where the design is the music and the music is the design — available now on Spotify, SoundCloud, and YouTube.
